How does my pump work?

All pool pumps used in a domestic situation use an electrically driven centrefugal pumping system.

Hi, I currently have an ONGA PPP750 1 HP pump and want to replace it with a much more silent one. I am looking at the Davey brand of pumps. Can you recommend a quiet replacement pump. Regards George

Hi George
The davey sls range are a very quiet pump, here is a link to the equivalent pump in the sls range

Could we use a ePump flopro on one of its lowest settings? To run the lights for the Laminar water jets we will also need a controller and remote what can you suggest? Do you have 3 water jets in stock and do they come with the led transformer? Steve

Hi Steve

You will need to discuss with zodiac on 1800688552, whether the pump would be a suitable option.

the price quoted ($860.00) is without transformers.

with transformers the price is $960.00.

available within 5 working days to your area.

you can use the spa electrics remote controler with the laminar jets

Good afternoon. I need to buy a new pump for my approx 30,000 litre pool. I’ve looked at the different types online & am still not sure which way to go. I’m leaning towards an Eco model, but am not sure which one is best value for money (eg. price, running costs, warranty etc). Could you please give me some advice & prices for eco pumps and delivery to Kinross Western Australia. Regards. John Foster.

Town/State Albury NSW Subject SP5000 skimmer box. Extension Pool or Spa Type Inground Pool Message Just about to install an inground pool and the Waterco Paramount SP5000 skimmer box has an extension piece 'welded/glued' to the body however with a 300 wide paver the top lid will interfere. Am seeing if you can buy the extension piece so I can move away from the paver and avoid cutting it. Little info on the net and I believe it is a non stock part AXSM040. Can you help? cheers Gary

Town/State QLD Subject Product suitability Order Ref: Waiting to order Pool or Spa Type Freestanding Portable Spa Message Hi, I am just checking that I am purchasing the correct product. I have a Waterco Pump/Heater P Code 4555100E in my Spa. The half union collar has split and water escapes profusely. From your website the closest to it is the Waterco Pump 40mm Half Union (I assume the 40mm is the size of the PVC pipe that fits in to the union - the collar interior diameter is approx. 6cm and external 7.5cm). However, your photo shows the O ring fitting in a slot whereas my O ring just sits on the outside of the indented diameter. I have attached 3 photos of my half union. Can you please advise if your 40 mm union will be suitable for my pump or if you have one that is. Thanks. Owen

we have a waterco turbo tuff pump it keeps overheating and cuts out approx 7 years old . we have a hi rate sand filter, pool is 65,000 thanks Graeme

Greame

If the pump is cutting out due to a fault them it may need repair or replacement. If it is overheating due to lack of ventilation at the fan of the pump, you may need to relocate the pump.

The Waterco Turbotuff pump has been discontinued now and a Hydrostorm is a very good replacement to it. Also the Watercooled Davey SLL Pumps are also a good option as any replacement pump you get will need to be replumbed into location.

Davey Pumps Pool or Spa Type Above Ground Pool Message Hi, We have a existing 0.75HP Onga Pump that has died and was looking to replace with an energy efficent Davey pump, will the Davey NEW SLS-ECO 6 Star Energy Rating be a sufficent replacement?

Hi Droyt

The Davey sls eco pump would be ok for you as long as you have a cartridge cleaner and you do not run a suction cleaner (kreepy crawley) as the sls eco pump does not have enough power

to properly back wash a sand filter or run a suction cleaner
regards

Michael

Sand filter &pump Pool or Spa Type Inground Pool Message Replacing our cartridge filter for sand & also need a new pump. Pool size 12 by 4.5 hold about 94.000 litres what do you recommend please

Hi Stephen

If you are replacing both filter and pump then you are in the position to take advantage of a pump filter combination that will reduce the running costs by as much as 70%.

the viron p320 combined with a waterways 32 inch sand filter is the way to go. The viron is a multi speed pump that is programmable for run times and speed settings.

This means that with a Saltwater chlorinator you would normally use the timer on the chlorinator to run the pump, this system works the other way around so that the pump runs on its own timer and the chlorinator is set to manually on. The chlorinator will not turn on power to the salt cell until it detects water flowing thru the cell which wont occur till the pump turns itself on.

Or you can even go one better.

You may or may not know this, In pool water chemistry the two important components are the free chlorine level and the ph level.

The ph level of the human eye is 7.4. if the pool water ph is the same or close to it, you don't get the red eye effect. A common misconception is that eye irritation is caused by too much chlorine in the water.

Also more importantly the ph level has a major effect on the effectiveness of the free chlorine.

For example:
Pool water ph is 7.4, free chlorine effectiveness is 100%.
Pool water ph is 7.6, free chlorine effectiveness is 70%
Pool water ph is 7.8, free chlorine effectiveness is 40%
Pool water ph is 8.1, free chlorine effectiveness is 5%

and vice versa.

I have given you this information so as you can understand the benefits of going one better

Ok so about going one better?

Put in the viron p320 pump and the matching 32 inch waterways American made sand filter
and add in a viron equilibrium Saltwater chlorinator.

With the viron equilibrium Saltwater chlorinator in the picture its now a whole new ball game.
What happens now, is that with the viron equilibrium in the picture, the viron equilibrium Salt Chlorinator takes full control of the situation.
everything from monitoring the free cholrine in the water and turning on the pump and the cell when needed as well as monitoring and ajusting the ph level by acid dosing when required.
However this setup does much more than this.
The Chlorinator communicates with the pump via data cable and will tell the pump when to run and at what speed to run.
In the A. I. Mode the chlorinator can also sense bather load and adjust settings and operation of equipment to suit
It also works out the most cost efficient method of pump operation and acts accordingly

can you please tell me how to replace Davey sls-150 pump impeller as is seized on the motor?

Thanks

The front housing of the pump will screw off using the proper tool from Davey. You then access the impeller from there.

If your is seized then we are only able to recommend you see a pump repair technician to perform the work so as not to create any further damage.

Link to Davey SLS150 pump: http://www.epools.com.au/davey-swimming-pool-pumps-davey-silensor-sls-sll-pool-pump-c-79_425_80/davey-silensor-pool-pump-sls150-equiv-to-1hp-p-5316.html

Please note: Pump repairs only come with a very limited warranty often only 6 months. The replacement pump for (given a couple of hundred more) gains you a 3 year manufacturers warranty.
